Again, enjoy the photo while cherish the treasure of the majestic Mount Kinabalu!

This morning i was attracted with 1 query at one of the well-known traveller’s forum, saying that he’ll be coming to Sabah on the 15th-18th of August 2008 (including mountain climbing for 2 days). Since it’s a pretty brief visit, this was my response to his post:

Let me guess, you’ll be arriving in KK early morning on the 15th and will stay overnight in KK before proceeding to Mount Kinabalu on the next day. If you have time after the arrival, try to visit Kudat District (there have The Tip Of Borneo, The Rungus Longhouse, The Gong Making and Honey Bee Farm) by renting one taxi. Or, you could visit Penampang District (I recommend you to visit The Monsopiad Cultural Village) in order to feel the authenticity of the local / Sabahans. Also, rent a taxi to reach that place. It’s very near from the Airport. Don’t worry, you will have a wonderful experience at this place while utilizing wisely the time that you have.

On the 16, you’ll be needing approx. 1.5 hours to reach National Park, Kundasang from Kota Kinabalu and start your mountain climbing about 9am onwards. You could choose the time to depart, but it’s better to start earlier (9am) and reach Laban Rata earlier. It would be your spectacular experience! (Be prepared with the breathtaking sceneries, so starting your journey earlier would be the best decision. You can have more time to enjoy the wonderful flora and fauna as well as getting enough rest for tomorrow’s journey).

On the 17, you have to take your breakfast before 1am, because you’ll be starting to climb to the Low’s Peak (the highest point of Mt. Kinabalu) roughly 1am and reaching the peak just before sunrise (depends on the stamina). Many people felt differently while on that altitude due to temperature and environment conditions. Some might feeling dizzy or unwell. So, whatever your religious is, don’t forget to ask for God’s strength and protection. That’s important. From the peak, after taking photo and enjoying the astonishing view, you’ll be going back to Laban Rata, get some rest, meal, pack your things and prepare yourself to say goodbye to Laban Rata. You’ll be needing about 2-3 hours to reach the entrance gate of Mount Kinabalu (Timpohon Gate or Mesilau) Say, you start your voyage at 12pm or 1pm, you’ll be reaching Timpohon approx. at 2-3pm.

From this point, you might want to proceed your visit to Poring Hot Spring (which is approx. 39km from National Park or 20km from Ranau Town). About 4pm, you’ll be reaching Poring Hot Spring (travel by bus or charter taxi or rent a car. But you might encounter difficulties to drive it by yourself. You’ve been using your energy and some might suffer muscle injury). If you are on your own, not attaching with any travel agency, travel by bus (you can easily find a bus at the National Park bus stop) to Poring Hot Spring. On the 18 (which is your last day in Sabah), you’ll be heading back to Kota Kinabalu and as usual, you need to take a bus in order to reach the city. Plan your time so that you wouldn’t miss your flight. There are so many attractive places in Sabah that you could visit if your have additional time. However, there’ll always be some other time. However, Mount Kinabalu still the highest mountain in Malaysia and thousands of tourist came to visit here every year just to experience the breathtaking scenery plus the magnificent flora and fauna (nature). Mount Kinabalu is literally sited in Ranau District which is approximately 76 km from Kota Kinabalu City Centre and 248 km from Sandakan city.
